“The time to relax is when you don't have time for it.” Sydney J. Harris
Feeling a little pressured, are you? Counting the days (and checking your bank balance) until the holidays, wondering if you’ll have the time and money to do everything you want to do (or think you have to do)?
Worrying because it’s nearly December, which means April 15th is just around the corner and that means tax time and what if there isn’t enough money to pay the piper?
Or maybe your fears are less defined, and all you know is that you have to hurry-hurry-hurry because your kids wants something and your spouse wants something and your boss wants something and heaven knows, you want something too but there just isn’t time!
So you rush and run and scramble and slip and slide your way to a complete meltdown — all in the name of catching up.
Well, guess what? It’s not going to happen. No matter how hard you work, how little you sleep, how many candles you burn at both ends (and possible even in the middle), you’ll never wipe out everything on your To-Do list.
So here’s a novel thought: just stop. Right now, take a deep breath and stop. Stop trying to be Superman or Superwoman and just be.
Stop setting unreasonable expectations for yourself (and others around you!) and just be.
Because if there is one thing I know, if you don’t take the time you need, your mind and body will make sure that you get it anyway. You’ll have a heart attack, a stroke, ulcers or migraines. You won’t be able to sleep or eat or, conversely, you’ll do too much of either or both.
Bottom line: you’ll break down because you didn’t take a break.
So the next time you say “I don’t have time to relax!” know that you need to take the time right then!
