Having fun yet?

“Time you enjoy wasting was not wasted.” John Lennon

I looked up the word “waste” in the dictionary and among the many definitions found on that said “a failure to use something wisely, properly, fully, or to good effect.” So if the something is “time,” then not making good use of it would be a waste.

But the question is: what constitutes a “good use of time”?

Do you have to be busy, productive, a regular little worker bee? Or can you be having fun, enjoying yourself, and still be making good use of time?

This month we celebrated Zero-Tasking Day, which was all about taking the time to do nothing, to let the grass grow under your feet for at least 60 minutes, to just give yourself space to be, figuratively speaking.

But if you have found it hard to do nothing, then try this: spend one hour a day having fun. Go for a bike ride. Play a board game. Shoot hoops. Watch a Marx Brothers movie. Read the comics. Find something to do that makes you laugh.

Your goal isn’t to accomplish anything in particular except to give your body a rush of happy hormones. It will help keep you balanced when you get back to the serious business of being a grown-up!
