Use your own "Success" yardstick
June began with “Recognize Your Accomplishments” Day, when we noted not what we have yet to achieve, but what we have already completed.
But the yardstick we need to use when measuring our accomplishments must be very personal.
Unfortunately, far too often we look at others—what they have and what they’ve done—and ask ourselves, “Why don't I have those symbols of success? Why haven’t I done this?”
But each one of us is an individual, with different skills, gifts, talents, challenges and weaknesses. Equally important to understand is that we are all in different circumstances, and have to set our priorities based on those highly unique conditions.
Perhaps we have only moved two inches forward toward our goal, when someone else may have gone two miles. But those two inches were accomplished with great effort and despite many obstacles.
We need to recognize our efforts and applaud ourselves for our successes. That will give us the encouragement we need to keep going on.
