In The Waste Land, TS Eliot writes that “April is the cruelest month,” and those of us who have to pay taxes undoubtedly agree. But since taxes, like death, are inevitable, let’s make a conscious effort to shift our focus from a sense of lack to a belief in abundance.
In other words, while we may have to part with some cold hard cash, we probably have far more “riches” than we realize.
This month, make a conscious effort to focus on abundance with these exercises:
- Fill a small saucer with one of each: a penny, a nickel, a dime, a quarter, a half-dollar and a silver dollar, and set it where you will see it each day as a symbol of the riches you have in your life.
- Each evening, note one positive occurrence that took place that day: a smile from a stranger, a phone call from a friend, a cloudy morning that by noon had transformed into a sun-filled day.
- Be a “ray of sunshine.” For seven days, focus on giving, not getting: send an extra check to a charity, compliment a service provider on a job well done, lend a helping hand to someone who needs it. One Day Eight go all out: buy two dozen cut flowers and hand them out to the first 24 people who cross your path.
Then take a moment to post your own tips for how you keep your eyes fixed on the bright side of life!
